A very big thank you to parents, governors, staff and children for
all the gifts and good wishes I received on my final day at Great
Horwood. I was overwhelmed with your kindness and will remember my
secondment with great affection; I will certainly take happy memories
back to Brookmead in Ivinghoe next term.
In the meantime - happy holidays to you all. Both staff and governors
look forward to welcoming you back on Thursday 2nd September.

French Breakfast

It was a pleasure to see so many parents at the Year 6
breakfast this morning. The children took many orders in French
for croissants, pain au chocolate and a selection of drinks. Thank you
to everyone who was involved in making this such a successful event.
To see the children immersed in another country's culture was fantastic.
Merci beaucoup!
Advance Dates
KS2 will be staging 'Beauty and the Beast' on Monday 12th July at 2pm
and Tuesday 13th July at 6pm. Tickets will be available shortly.
Educational visits and visitors
As an introduction to their learning theme of “Our Changing World” Year
6 have visited Woburn Safari Park. The information they gained from this
visit is being used as they develop the ideas within their learning
theme. Year 3 and 4 have met their Oak Green partners for the final time
this year. The visit included time in the Aylesbury Mosque and the
planned picnic in the park was held in Oak Green School due to the
weather. Year 3 and 4 also performed at the Civic Centre in Aylesbury as
part of their Wider Opportunities Music programme. Their outstanding
xylophone playing was praised by all who were there. Well done Year 3
and 4! At the end of the term Aylesbury Music Service Peripatetic
teachers visited the school to perform a variety of pieces of music and
tell us about the instruments they were playing.

On May 22nd our Maypole Dancers opened Thornborough Fete with a
performance of three dances. All who watched congratulated the dancers
on their performance. Next year we hope to teach pupils from
Thornborough School some dances and perform together.
On 7th May our Dance team from Year 5 took part in the final of the area
Dance Extravaganza competition. They danced magnificently and the
competition was again very fierce. They were awarded second place and
have since performed their dance at Milton Keynes Theatre as part of the
Buckingham School Showcase. This was a marvellous experience for the
children and I’m sure their parents, and one which they will never
forget.
Year 6 were due to take part in a rounders competition on Tuesday which
unfortunately had to be called off due to rain. Yesterday a team from
Year 2 took part in the Year 2 Tennis final competition held at
Aylesbury Tennis Club. It was an exciting competition in which the
children all played well and improved their tennis skills. Well done to
Luke Brazier, Hannah Moyles, Theo Nash, Katie Lee, Evie Sirrett and Joe
Clarkson.
Extended Services
Bikeability Training
The last session of Bikeability training for this year will take place
in the school grounds on Saturday 3rd July from 9:00 -10:00 a.m. This is
for children in Years 2 and 3 - letters will go out to those who have
asked for a place nearer the time. There are still 2 places left for
this training, please speak to me if you would like your child to take
part. The cost of the training is £2. Gill Henderson who runs the
Bikeability Training is visiting school on June 17th for the last
Cycling Maintenance session and will be in school from 8:15 a.m. This is
a chance for you and your children’s bicycles to have a free maintenance
check. I know that all the children who have already had their bicycles
checked have found this a very useful service.
After School clubs
Our afterschool activities continued this week. We are very fortunate to
be able to offer the children such a wide variety of activities, and I
know from having spoken to the children that they are enjoying the
activities immensely.
The Toby Terkelsen Supercook Trophy
The final of this competition will take place in school on Friday 25th
June with the finalists having to design and cook a two course meal
which will be judged by the head chef from Prego’s in Buckingham. Good
luck to all those taking part.
Healthy School
Several parents have asked for clarification about break time snacks. A
copy of the schools Healthy Snack leaflet can be viewed on the school
website. Our recommendation for break time snacks is as follows;
“This school is encouraging children to have fruit and vegetables for
their mid morning snack. The following snacks are encouraged:
· Portion of whole fruit such as
apples, bananas, pears
· Raw vegetables such as celery,
cucumber, carrots
· Fruit cut into bite- sized pieces
in a named container
· Dried fruit, sultanas, raisins,
apricots
We welcome your support in this matter.
Children in Key Stage 1 are supplied with fruit or vegetables as part of
a government initiative.
Unfortunately we have not had enough positive responses for purchasing
water bottles for use in school as described in the last newsletter
therefore at the present time we will not be placing an order for these
items.
Sainsbury’s vouchers
Thank you to everyone who has sent in Sainsbury’s vouchers. We are
continuing to count the vouchers. Please look to see if you have any
more. Thank you – from Year 6
Tesco Vouchers
Thank you to everyone who has sent in Tesco vouchers. We now have over
14500 vouchers. The children have drawn up a wish list of what they
would like to spend the vouchers on and we will be making a final
decision shortly. Please look to see if you have any more. Thank you –
from Year 6.
